The Waterman’s Archive

Series I: Blue Harvest

These life-size cyanotypes utilize ultraviolet contact printing to record the physical forms of diverse sea life harvested from the Atlantic Ocean, primarily off of Montauk Point. By using the specimens themselves to create the image, Paul employs one of the original forms of photography to document species—many of which are currently threatened by climate change and over-fishing. This collection acts as a vital historical record, capturing the biological textures of the wild catch in a medium that can never be exactly replicated. The collection signifies Paul Brooke’s eye for design, natural beauty, and craftsmanship.

“Artist, photographer and waterman Paul Brooke displays his love for the ocean, design and craftsmanship in his latest exhibition. The artwork serves as a visual feast and a narrative on environmental and ecological concerns.”
